Just another beautiful Sunday hanging out at State Capital Raceway. We took my car out and ran a new best time. Wes ran a 12.91 which bested the last time of 12.92. Yeah I know, HUGE difference My best run was a 13.00, wasn’t having a great run day, I DQ’d 2 out 3 times. Car photographer extraordinaire, Terry Stokes, was out taking pics and got some great shots of my last run.
Even Kayla got to drive. She cut some donuts on that cart. She’s a natural
Last Sunday, Wes and I finally made it out to CENLA-SCCA, otherwise known as Autocross. It’s something we’ve been talking about doing for months, but finally got around to it. You know, you don’t have to be good at something to enjoy it. I had a blast and can’t wait to do it again next month. But next time I will remember to bring the sunscreen.
Last Friday night, Wes and I headed to New Orleans to see Ingrid Michaelson at the House of Blues. She just happens to be one of my favorite singer / songwriters. I’m not typically a concert goer, in fact I could probably count the number of concerts I’ve attended on one hand. So, little did we know, the House of Blues is standing room only, so we were in for a long night. I say, totally worth it. Ingrid rocked the house with her singing and humor. You gotta love a singer that will parody one of her own songs. She even did a little Vanilla Ice and Fresh Prince theme song for us. She just released her latest album, “Everybody“, which is great. “Girls and Boys“, is still my favorite album though. If you haven’t heard of her, check her out on iTunes.
Here a few pics and a video we shot at the concert.
Oh, and this is a shot that Greg Holden shot onstage. He opened for Ingrid and was pretty good himself. See if you can spot Wes and I in the crowd.
Well, it was a quick trip We left around noon on Sunday and headed east for Destin. We drove through 5 hours of rain to get there. It was not looking promising.
We got there around 6:00 Sunday afternoon and got to play on the beach a little bit. Kayla loved the sand and was still telling me today, “sand fun”. She was not so happy with the Gulf. She was a little scared of the waves. I guess she is like me and prefers the pool. With all the wind and rain it was a little chilly out there. A little too chilly for the pool. Kayla’s teeth were chattering and her lips were purple, I said, ” Kayla, are you cold?” She said, “No, pool fun!” So we let her swim in the hot tub, which she just loved.
There is a shopping center in Destin that is very similar to our new Perkins Rowe, there is a Bass Pro and Rave Theater and numerous other shops and restaurants. In the center is a bunch of fountains in sidewalk that the kids can play in and a play place with slides and stuff. We let Kayla run around for about an hour. She loved those fountains.
Then yesterday when it was time to leave, it was a beautiful day. I wanted to take her back to the beach, but we had to check out at 11:00am, so we didn’t have time. Rain aside, it was a great trip, we got to relax. The hotel offered free dvd rentals, so we watched Madagascar 2, Fools Gold and Marley & Me in the king size bed. And yesterday morning I sat outside on the balcony and read a book and listened to the waves. I could have done that for hours.
She did surprisingly well for such a long road trip. And she slept very well in the room, so I am ready to take her on another trip. We have a trip to Houston planned in November. I just hope she is as impressed with it as she was with the beach.
So, I was digging around in my photos this week and came across this ancient photo of me.
I think this was taken around 1989? That would have made me 6 at the time. I do remember this was taken at a family reunion in Grand Isle. We had a crawfish boil and I found this little crab. I guess I decided to keep it as a pet, I don’t remember. I was probably traumatized when I realized it was dead, lol.
There was really no point to me sharing this photo with you or the story that follows. But it’s been a while since my last post, so bear with me and I’ll share some of what I can remember from being 6.
Did you turn on the music widget? Well that was my favorite song when I was a kid. Seriously, I thought it was the greatest song ever. I don’t even remember other songs at that age, just this one. Best line of the song…”Knee deep in Hoopla. “
Even as a child, I was not a morning person. Not much motivated me to get out of bed. But Pee Wee’s play house was the reason I woke up on Saturday morning.
I’ve always been a good mix of tom boy and girly girl. Pipeworks, Legos and Barbies were my favorite toys.
Did anyone else have a set of these? Seriously, they were the greatest toy ever.
I was also in love with the blue Thunderbird
There’s no telling where I saw one of these cars, I just remember that I was going to buy one when I grew up. Well, I kept it in the Ford family anyway.
And lastly, I was totally in love with this guy.
Yes, I just knew that I was going to marry Macgyver. Don’t laugh, you know that being able to build a bomb out of a rubber band, a paper clip and a tube sock was hot. Macgyver is still the man, lol.
Ok, one more just for fun. I don’t know what birthday this was, but can you guess where we celebrated?
So there you have it, 6 year old G. I know you were all dying to know.
